Department of Sociology: A Legacy of Academic Excellence

Since its inception at the foundation of Yeshwant Mahavidyalaya, the Department of Sociology has evolved into a premier centre for higher learning. Originally established with Undergraduate (UG) programs, the department later expanded to offer Post-Graduate (PG) courses, consistently maintaining high academic standards and fostering a culture of social inquiry.

Leadership and Faculty

The department’s growth is steered by a distinguished lineage of Heads of Department (HoDs) who have shaped its vision:

Academic Initiatives and Student Engagement

The department utilizes modern pedagogy, including Smart Classrooms, and organizes various co-curricular activities to bridge the gap between theory and contemporary social issues:

  • Innovative Presentations: Recent "Wallpaper Presentations" have tackled critical themes such as GST, Demonetization, and the legacy of Late Dr. Shankarrao Chavan.
  • Experiential Learning: Educational tours (e.g., to Chakur, Latur) provide PG students with practical field insights.
  • Skill Development: Regular organization of essay writing, Rangoli, and speech competitions, alongside workshops on new syllabi and research methodology.
  • Orientation & Guidance: Annual induction programs and guest lectures by eminent scholars, such as Dr. Pushpesh Kumar (University of Hyderabad) and Dr. Baburao Jadhav (SRTMU, Nanded), ensure students are well-versed in the philosophical roots and modern approaches of the discipline.

Distinguished Recognition

The department takes immense pride in the achievements of its faculty. Notably, Professor B.M. Kamble was honoured with a National Award in 2018 by the Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam International Institute for Social and Economic Reforms, Bengaluru, for his significant contributions to the field.
